# Support — PsychArch Reader

> Get started with PsychArch Reader: sign in, upload reading, install the web app, and understand offline access.

## Open your library

[Open Reader](https://reader.psycharch.com/) and sign in through PsychArch Auth. Your account must be verified and have access to the Reader application. If access is unavailable, contact your PsychArch administrator.

## Save something to read

Use the [upload page](https://reader.psycharch.com/upload/) to save text or Markdown. To send files or automate uploads, use the [command line](https://reader.psycharch.com/intro/support/#cli). Choose how long to keep an item; the default is three days.

## Install the web app

Open Reader in your browser and look for its install or add-to-home-screen option. On iPhone or iPad, use Safari's Share menu and choose Add to Home Screen. Installation keeps Reader easy to open on your device.

## Command line

Find CLI downloads for macOS, Linux, and Windows on the [Download](https://reader.psycharch.com/intro/download/#cli) page. The macOS/Linux installer uses `~/.local/bin`; add that directory to your PATH. Windows users should extract the ZIP and put `psycharch-reader.exe` in a directory on PATH.

Sign in and send a file:

```
psycharch-reader doctor
psycharch-reader login --open
psycharch-reader send --file note.md
```

After signing in, use `psycharch-reader send --file note.md`, `psycharch-reader send --clipboard`, or pipe text into `psycharch-reader send`. For a remote terminal, use `psycharch-reader login --device`.

The default credential store is macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, or Linux Secret Service. Linux Secret Service requires D-Bus and an unlocked collection, including for device login. On a minimal server such as Alpine, use `psycharch-reader doctor --credential-store file` and `psycharch-reader login --device --credential-store file`. File storage keeps tokens unencrypted in account-private files. `systemd-creds` is an optional encrypted backend when its preflight succeeds; it is not required. Linux clipboard uploads need xclip or xsel; files and stdin do not.

To send every reply automatically, set up [Codex](https://reader.psycharch.com/intro/codex/) or [Claude Code](https://reader.psycharch.com/intro/claude-code/). Both guides cover desktop and headless sign-in.

## Chrome extension

In Chrome 120 or later, open [PsychArch Reader on the Chrome Web Store](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/psycharch-reader/dnkeglidmpmlbikjpjipbggpephpjpdo), choose **Add to Chrome**, and confirm the installation and requested permissions.

Open Chrome's extensions menu, find PsychArch Reader, and open its options to sign in. Choose your retention and notification preferences and save them. Open an article, then click the extension's toolbar button to save it to Reader. You can pin the extension to the toolbar for easier access.

The published extension receives updates through Chrome. If you previously loaded a development build, remove it from `chrome://extensions`, then install from the Chrome Web Store and sign in again.

## Firefox extension

In desktop Firefox 142 or later, open [PsychArch Reader on Firefox Add-ons](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/psycharch-reader/), choose **Add to Firefox**, and confirm the installation and requested permissions.

Open Firefox's extensions menu, find PsychArch Reader, and open its settings to sign in. Choose your retention and notification preferences and save them. Open an article, then click the extension's toolbar button to save it to Reader. You can pin the extension to the toolbar for easier access.

The published extension stays installed when Firefox restarts and receives updates through Firefox. If you previously loaded the development build temporarily, remove it from `about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox` or restart Firefox, then install from Firefox Add-ons.

## iPhone and iPad

The native client requires iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. Open Compose to save text or Markdown, or use the explicit Paste button. In Safari or another app, choose Share → Send to Reader, inspect the draft and tap Save. Saving and reading work offline without an account. In Account, choose Sign in and sync to synchronize local saves with your private Reader library; cloud synchronization needs an internet connection.

Open Account for download storage, sign-out, privacy and support. Account → Delete Account opens the identity verification and account deletion flow. The App Store release is being prepared; this guide does not provide a native download yet.

## macOS app

When a macOS download is published, find it on the [Download](https://reader.psycharch.com/intro/download/#macos) page. It requires macOS 14 or later and supports Apple Silicon and Intel. Open the DMG, drag PsychArch Reader for Mac to Applications, then eject the disk image and open the app from Applications.

Use its menu bar icon to sign in through PsychArch Auth. Copy Markdown or plain text and choose Upload Clipboard, or press `⌃⌥⌘U`. Clipboard access happens only when you request an upload. To update, quit the app and replace it in Applications with the version from a newer DMG.

## ChatGPT and Claude

Connect your assistant to Reader, then ask it to save a response or reading note. Follow the [setup guide](https://reader.psycharch.com/intro/connect/) for ChatGPT and Claude.

## Read offline

Open Reader while online first. The web app caches recent unexpired items and keeps opened reading within its cache limit. An item that was never cached will need a connection. Uploads, sign-in, and public share links also need a connection.

## Share with care

A share link is public to anyone who has it. It expires with the item. Avoid sharing private material that you would not want someone else to download.

## End a session

Sign out in Reader to end its browser session and clear private offline copies there. Manage connected applications at [PsychArch Auth](https://auth.psycharch.com/) to disconnect Reader access.

## Contact support

Email support@psycharch.com for account, installation or privacy help. Do not include passwords or private document content.
